The Institute of Fundraising's Codes of Fundraising Practice

The Institute of Fundraising’s Codes of Fundraising Practice represent the standards set for fundraisers in the UK. Each Code covers a separate fundraising technique, providing guidance and legal advice, and information on how to ensure and safeguard excellence.

Voluntary and Community Organisations have a duty of care to ensure that the trust invested in, and confidence given to, the voluntary and community sector by central and local Government, police authorities, community advice bodies and most importantly, the public, is maintained. The Institute believes that developing and encouraging standards in fundraising is the key to achieving this, removing barriers to allow the sector to build healthy and productive partnerships.

By becoming a member of the Fundraising Standards Board scheme you will agree to adhere to these codes. The Codes are also relevant for an audience beyond practitioner fundraisers. Anyone involved in regulating or advising on fundraising, who is concerned about maintaining high standards of fundraising or who needs to know what the voluntary and community sector expects of a fundraising organisation should be aware of the Codes and demand the standards set out within them. The Codes are continually evolving and the Institute actively welcomes challenges to content and to gaps in the series of the Codes.

You can download individual Codes or the whole 'The Codes of Fundraising Practice' publication from the Institute of Fundraising website. Please click the link in the list of Codes and the Codes will open up as a PDF file in a separate window. You can either save that document to your hard drive, or print it directly from that window. If you do not have acrobat reader (the software needed to read PDF documents), you can download it for free from the Adobe Corporation website
