FRSB launches Advocate Membership
30 May 2008
Organisations that support fundraising or have an advisory role to those working in fundraising can now join the Fundraising Standards Board as an Advocate Member. Members of this new category will act as advocates for teh FRSB by promoting the scheme to their members or fundraising organisations that they come into contact with.
Two early advocate members are the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) and the Institute of Fundraising (the Institute). Mick Aldridge, PFRA Chief Executive said "Although the PFRA as a 'founder member' of the FRSB is a permanent member 'as of right', we still felt it was important to put our money where our mouth is and stand up and be counted in a clear and concrete contribution to the growth and success of the FRSB. Advocate membership allows us to do just that."
Lindsay Boswell, chief executive of the Institute commented, "Any organisation whose members have any form of interest in voluntary income has a compelling morale reason to join the FRSB as an advocate member. The £8bn given each year by the public is too important to put at risk and self-regulation is key to reducing this risk."
One of the first to join as an advocate member in Scotland is Fellow of the Institute, Susan Robinson. "Working as a trainer and assessor of fundraisers," she said, "I feel it's important to demonstrate best practice at all times. Becoming an advocate member of the FRSB allows me to keep up-to-date with Institute Codes of Fundraising Practice and other information which I can pass on."
"We've established this new category of membership to enable those organisations in the sector that can or want to support self-regulation but for whom joining as a full members isn't appropriate" said Jon Scourse, FRSB Chief Executive. "We will welcome any sector organisation or individual that is in a position to promote or be an advocate for maintaining and developing standards in fundraising practice."
